About Us
ListenToSA is an independent technology publication written for South African readers. We review the phones, laptops, components and software you are actually considering, and explain the technology behind them in plain language — with local availability and rand pricing in mind.
What we stand for
No paid reviews, no manufacturer sign-off, and no repackaged spec sheets. We publish two kinds of hardware article and we label which is which: hands-on pieces built from a unit we have used ourselves, and research-based overviews built from manufacturer data and benchmark results published by established testing outlets. Every article in the second group says so on the page, so you always know what a verdict is based on. You can read exactly how we work on our Editorial Standards & How We Test page.
What we cover
We work across ten beats, chosen because they are the decisions readers actually face rather than the ones that generate the most press releases:
- Phones, Android and iPhone. Flagship and mid-range handsets, the software that ships on them, and whether an older model is still worth buying.
- Laptops. Ultraportables, creator machines and Chromebooks, with attention to battery life and thermals rather than peak benchmark numbers alone.
- PC Hardware. Graphics cards, processors and the components around them, including what they cost to run.
- Printers. An unglamorous category where running cost matters more than launch price, so we weight ink and toner economics heavily.
- Accessories. Storage, peripherals, audio and the everyday kit that rarely gets a serious look.
- AI Tools. What the current generation of assistants and generators is genuinely useful for, and where they still fall short.
- Software. Operating systems, applications and the settings worth changing.
- How-To. Step-by-step guides for the tasks people search for at the moment something stops working.
- Explainers. Plain-language answers to the questions underneath the jargon, from latency to encryption.
How we decide what to cover
We start from what readers are trying to decide, not from what launched this week. That means we will happily publish a considered look at a two-year-old phone that is now good value, and skip a flagship launch we have nothing useful to add to. Nothing is covered because a manufacturer asked, and no company sees an article before it goes live.
Corrections
We get things wrong sometimes, and specifications and prices move after publication. If you spot a factual error, email us the article URL and the specific claim, and we will check it and correct the article. Significant corrections are noted on the page itself rather than quietly edited out.
